AURORA LENT
Sweden 2023-2025 / 42 oil paintings, 7 acrylic paintings, 42 ceramic figurines, 7 figurines from modeling clay, Instagram profile
I decided to create this person named Aurora Lent as a follow-up to a similar project, Aniela Lato, I had been working on in 2020–2021. At that time, I had a lot of fun, since it led me into new ways of working and thinking. But Aniela Lato had an expiration date, while Aurora Lent was created without one. It started from the realization that I wouldn’t be painting under my own name again, but I still wanted to keep doing it—for people—to paint colorful and simple images that could be enjoyed as part of home interiors.
But working on her works and following fictional ideas made me tired quicker than I imagined. The ideas and desires I had when I started in 2023 became irrelevant and old too soon.
On the 19th of September 2023, she wrote in her diary:
“At the end of summer, I left my sketchbook on the bus traveling from one city to another. Inside, I noted some of my dreams. I thought about painting them. Now I think I wouldn’t do it if I hadn’t lost the sketchbook. But without all the notes and sketches, I felt the obligation.”
And that’s it. I never came back to writing as her again. The titles come from my diaries, and the images come from my life. I wanted to fictionalize my real life inside her fictional one, but I think the idea was too hard to comprehend, believe in, and therefore follow through.
I still refer to all these paintings as “her paintings,” but the idea of painting according to the seven days of the week and complementing them with the six primary and secondary colors aligned with my way of thinking. I realized there was no space for another system of thoughts, and therefore I had to send her away—to the office.
