STORIES FOR tHE LITTLE GIRLS

Sweden, 2025-2026 / 33 gouache illustrations, 40 crayon illustrations, 2 texts, 2 books

After a break from art, I decided that it might be a good time to fulfill a wish of my cousin’s wife, who had been asking me since the day their daughter was born to make a book for her.

Until then, I had mostly worked for my own sake and had never really taken on a bigger, more time-consuming project dedicated to somebody else. But as soon as I started working on it, I realized that I wanted to direct my work towards children, as they were the first audience I could think about in a more universal way and genuinely wanted to work for. This realization made me want to create not only for one child, but for many.

I also wanted to make a book for the girls I had been taking care of as a babysitter, and in 2025 I worked on two separate projects addressing different children while still aiming at the same audience group. I printed the first one as a present for my niece’s third birthday. I printed five copies in total; one of them I gave to two little sisters, my friend’s daughters.

As I read it aloud to the older one during the last night of 2025, it was actually the first time I had ever read it aloud myself, and then I realized how much I still had to learn.

Therefore the second book remained finished but never went further than the hard drive on my computer.
